Bachelor of Engineering / Technology(B.E / B.Tech) is the 4-year full-time undergraduate course in engineering. This course can be done with one of the engineering discipline. Prerequisites for pursuing B.Tech is 10+2 passed with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from the recognized educational board. Further, based on which premier institute you aspire, you may need to take different entrance exams as under
JEE Main
JEE Main is a national level engineering entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to help engineering aspirants get into some of the prestigious colleges of the country such as IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), NIT (National Institute of Technology), and CFTI (Centrally Funded Technical Institute). JEE Main is conducted twice in the year, January and April. The best of the two scores will be considered for the JEE Advanced. The paper tests aptitude in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects. The paper contains both objective and numerical questions.
JEE Advanced
JEE Advanced is conducted for the students who clear the JEE Main and secure a ranking within the top 2,50,000. This exam is considered to be one of the most complicated and challenging exams in the country. It is conducted only once a year. The exam mode is CBT (Computer-based test). Students are supposed to attempt three papers, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics get 3 hours of time limit per paper.
KCET
Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET) is the entrance test conducted by the state of Karnataka for admission to professional courses such as B.E and B.Tech in the engineering colleges. Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics papers consist of 60 marks each. The time limit is 1 hour 20 minutes. There is no negative marking in KCET. 1 mark is awarded for every correct answer.
COMEDK
Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) is an entrance exam conducted by the state of Karnataka to the admission of engineering and architecture courses. The exam contains a total of 180 questions for 180 marks. Students are supposed to attempt Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The exam is conducted for a span of 3 hours and the medium of exam is English.
BITSAT
Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test (BITSAT) is conducted by the prestigious Birla Institute of Technology. It is an entrance exam that gets the student a seat in the BITS campus across Goa, Hyderabad, and Pilani. It is an online exam where the students are expected to answer the questions within the span of 3 hours.
VITEEE
This is a Computer Based Test (CBT) for admissions to Engineering programs in Vellore Institute of Technology. VIT has campuses at Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal and Amaravati. In the general category, an aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, Maths/Biology is required to be eligible for the exam. Candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible for B.Tech, Bioengineering and Biotechnology programmes. - Postgraduate Course leading to M.Tech Degree
Postgraduate course in engineering resulting in the award of a Master of Engineering (M.E.) or Master of Technology (M.Tech) degree . It is a 2-years course that one can pursue after completing a 4-year undergraduate program in engineering (B.Tech). For this the competitive exam to be cleared is GATE. - Doctoral Course in Engineering
Doctoral of Philosophy in Engineering (Ph.D) is the advanced research course in engineering that has the duration of 3 years. Course duration varies from college to college. Students admitted to the Ph.D. program should have a master degree in respective discipline.
CAREER POTENTIAL AND GROWTH
Infrastructure sector is a key driver for the Indian economy. The sector is responsible for powering India’s overall development and enjoys intense focus from the Government for initiating policies that would ensure time-bound creation of world class infrastructure in the country. Infrastructure sector includes power, bridges, dams, roads, and urban infrastructure development.
India exports transport equipment, capital goods, other machinery/equipment, and light engineering products such as castings, forgings, and fasteners to various countries of the world. The export of engineering goods is expected to reach US$ 200 billion by 2030.
India’s power sector is one of the most diversified in the world. Sources of power generation range from conventional sources such as coal, lignite, natural gas, oil, hydro and nuclear power to viable non-conventional sources such as wind, solar, and agricultural and domestic waste. Electricity demand in the country has increased rapidly and is expected to rise further in the years to come. In order to meet the increasing demand for electricity in the country, massive addition to the installed generating capacity is required. Growing population along with increasing electrification and per-capita usage will provide further impetus.
India is one of the largest consumers of electronic products in the Asia-Pacific region. Fuelled by strong policy support, huge investments by public and private stakeholders and a spike in demand for electronic products, the Electronics sector in India is predicted to reach US$ 220 billion by 2025, expanding at 16.1% CAGR between 2019 and 2025.
Covering more than 80,000 commercial products, India’s chemical industry is extremely diversified and can be broadly classified into bulk chemicals, specialty chemicals, agrochemicals, petrochemicals, polymers and fertilisers. Rise in demand from end-user industries such as food processing, personal care and home care is driving development of different segments in India’s specialty chemicals market.
India is the topmost off-shoring destination for IT companies across the world. Having proven its capabilities in delivering both on-shore and off-shore services to global clients, emerging technologies now offer an entire new gamut of opportunities for top IT firms in India. Indian IT & business services industry is expected to grow to US$ 19.93 billion by 2025.
All round developments in all the sectors will create immense job opportunities in all the branches of Engineering & Technology cluster!
