Nature of Work
There are a few careers that support pure science research. These include:
- Data Analyst
Applies statistical and computational methods to analyze and interpret large data sets, typically in fields such as finance, technology, or science. - Software Developer
Designs, develops, and maintains computer programs, often for use in scientific simulations, data analysis, or modeling. - Science Writer
Communicates scientific concepts and discoveries to the public, often through articles, books, or other media.
Essential Skills and Qualities
Those who would like to make a career as data analyst or software developer need to be good at statistical methods and tools, including the requisite software and generally have good numerical ability. Science writer needs a good understanding of scientific concepts and at the same time a good command over communication.
Educational Qualifications
Degrees in applied math, data analysis, data science, or statistical methods would lay a foundation for such careers.
