Nature of Work
A Travel Journalist is someone who explores, gathers and presents information as an article – either independently, or in a publication or as an audio-visual production. They must have great storytelling skills, the ability to capture what is unique about a location, to convey factual information, and provide insights that include historical, architectural, cultural or natural delights. The aim of travel journalism is to promote a wider understanding and knowledge of the world in which we live, to allow readers to visit places in their imaginations. The travel journalist also provides detailed information so that people can plan visits to places they read about.

Work Opportunities
Opportunities exist at different types of print or online publications, TV or internet productions, documentaries, freelance work, etc. Roles include Junior Travel Journalist, senior travel journalist, Travel blogger/writer/photographer/columnist, Senior Editor, Editor in chief, News Editor, Technical Writer, Documentation Specialist, so on.
Qualifying Path
The minimum education requirement for tour operators is 10+2 followed by a degree in journalism, or mass communications. A diploma or certificate course in photography and / or film making may also prove useful.
